How Much Do Missed Calls Cost Your Business?

By Oplari AI ·

You don't need industry averages to estimate what missed calls cost you. Your own call log and your typical job value are enough. Here's a simple method, a worked example, and the limits of the estimate.

Step 1: Count your missed calls

Open your phone's call log, or your provider's online call history, and count the missed calls from numbers you don't recognize over a typical week. Leave out spam, existing customers and suppliers.

Step 2: Estimate how many were real jobs you lost

Not every missed call is a lost sale. Some callers leave a voicemail, some call back, and some were never going to hire you. Be honest and conservative: of those calls, how many were likely new jobs that went to someone else? If you're unsure, start with one a week.

Step 3: Multiply by your average job value

Use the typical invoice for one job, not your biggest one.

Monthly estimate = jobs lost per week × average job value × 4.33 (weeks in a month)

A worked example (illustrative only)

Say a business misses five unknown calls a week and believes one of them is typically a real job that goes elsewhere. If the average job is $400, the estimate is 1 × $400 × 4.33 ≈ $1,732 a month. That's an illustration with made-up inputs, not a benchmark, and your numbers will be different.

What a text-back can and can't change

A missed call text back service doesn't guarantee that any caller hires you. What it does is make sure every caller hears from you within seconds, and that you call back knowing the job. A useful way to judge it: how many extra jobs a month would it need to help you win to cover its cost? With Oplari AI's Own it plan at $349 one-time, one recovered job of $349 or more covers the setup; with Done for you at $69/month, it's one job of $69 or more each month. Prices in CAD; see pricing.

Try it with your numbers

The missed-call calculator on our home page does this math in your browser, with nothing sent anywhere. Then see how it works or how it's set up for electricians and contractors.
